Alpine Plants of the World
Introduction:
This site is for those interested in the alpine plants and the environment they live in.
Alpine plants live in an extreme environment and there beauty comes from the ways they have evolved to cope with that environment. The places on this site are from countries I have visited so only cover a small part of the planet but I hope you will find them as interesting as I did.
My name is Ross and I live in Dunedin, New Zealand. Dunedin is a small city near the bottom of the East coast of the South Island. I have graduated with an Honours degree in botany from the University of Otago. My Honours project was on the photosynthesis of alpine plants on the Rock and Pillar Range. I have been cultivating New Zealand alpine plants for 10 years now.
In 2005 I won the Alpine Garden Society (UK) Sir William and Lady Lawrence Award for contributions to the cultivation and knowledge of alpine plants.
